Why Organic Bamboo?

Not all bamboo products are eco-friendly.

Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plant in the world. As a grass, bamboo grows to its maximum height in about 3 months and reaches maturity in 3 to 4 years.  In fact, an acre of land yields 10 times more bamboo than cotton, without the need for pesticides or herbicides to thrive. As a naturally sustainable crop, bamboo improves soil quality in degraded and eroded areas of land. As such Bamboo plantations can easily be kept organic and replanted yearly to replenish stocks.

However, as the demand for bamboo as a raw material increases, harmful chemical have been increasingly introduced both in its agricultural as well as manufacturing process.

mein organic uses 100% organic bamboo fabric that has been certified by The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), a world-wide recognised standard, that defines requirements to ensure the organic status of textiles. The standard covers harvesting of the raw materials, through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing.
